Ateneo remained perfect in the second round after a 2-0 win over National University in the UAAP Season 81 men's football tournament at the FEU-Diliman pitch Sunday at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City
Andreas Maniquis and Mark Nacional netted first-half goals for the table-topping Blue Eagles who extended their winning streak to four matches and rose to 22 points.
In other fixtures, defending champion University of the Philippines turned back University of Santo Tomas, 2-1, for its third straight win, while De La Salle halted a two-match slide following a 4-2 victory over Adamson University.
Kyle Magdato found the back of the net from a goalmouth scramble from a JB Borlongan corner in the 54th minute for the Fighting Maroons to snatch a 2-1 lead.
King Miyagi scored from an Orlan Togores assist to open the scoring for UP in the 12th minute.
Dexter Benecio then struck in the 36th minute for the Growling Tigers to equalize.
The Green Archers leveled at the break after Mateo Alegre scored a first-half stoppage time penalty kick. De La Salle then netted three second half goals, with John Rhey Lagura producing the 63rd minute strike, and Shanden Vergara netting a brace in the 67th and 68th minute.
UP and De La Salle remain level in fourth spot with 16 points, but the Diliman-based squad is still ahead via goal difference.
