University of Sto. Tomas seeks to secure at least a Final Four berth playoff in a rematch against University of the Philippines.
University of Sto. Tomas shoots for at least a Final Four berth playoff against another semis hopeful University of the Philippines in an all-important clash on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
The Tigresses sport a 7-4 win-loss record at third to fourth tied with Far Eastern University, just a win behind no. 2 team three-time defending champion De La Salle University Lady Spikers (8-3). Ateneo de Manila University (10-1) booked the first semis berth.
UST is coming off a quick straight sets victory over University of the East last Saturday and is hoping to use its momentum to make a repeat of its 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20, conquest of the Lady Maroons in the first round.
“Tighter ang labanan (sa Final Four) dun sa No. 3, 4, 5 at pwede pang sumama yung no. 2, wala pang nalalaglag. Ibig sabihin, wala pang nalalaglag, lahat pwede pang lumaban. But we are on the right track,” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes.
UP, on the other hand, is still licking its wounds from a four-set defeat at the hands of the Lady Tamaraws. The Lady Maroons are at solo fifth spot with a 6-5 slate.
Top hitter Isa Molde, who saw limited playing time last match in her return from a left ankle injury, remains doubtful as UP pins its hopes on Tots Carlos, Justine Dorog, Marist Layug, Marian Buitre and Ayel Estranero to hold the fort and avoid falling on the brink of elimination.
