John Rey Lagura (44) was one of two Green Archers to score in their 2-0 win over University of the East.
A pair of last-minute conversions pushed De La Salle University past University of the East, 2-0, in the second round of the UAAP Seaspon 81 Men's Football Tournament, Thursday morning at the FEU Diliman Football Field.
John Rey Lagura was the first on the board for the Green Archers, connecting in the 76th minute, before Jovan Marfiga shut the door on any chance of UE pulling even with a last-minute strike in two minutes into injury time.
"Very important yung win na 'to, for us to still be in the running for the Final Four," DLSU head coach Alvin Ocampo shared with ABS-CBN Sports following the win. "It gives us a chance to enter the Final Four. But stil, it depends on the results of the other teams."
"Hindi convincing yung win, but at least we got to recover from our loss to them nung first round," Ocampo added.
With the win, DLSU moves to 19 points off six wins, one draw, and five losses, good for second place behind table-topping Ateneo de Manila who has 22 points and ahead of Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas, who have 18 points and 17 points respectively.
With the race for the Final Four looking like a closely contested one, every win becomes very important, especially for a team like DLSU who are just a couple of points ahead of their competition.
"Importante sa akin yung win talaga, we'll accept the win but still, they have a lot to improve. At least we have time to prepare for our NU game after the Holy Week," Ocampo concluded.
