UAAP Season 81: It never crossed our minds to oust UP -- NU coach Miguel

Actually hindi naman (spoilers), ang sa amin lang talaga purely i-end namin ang last two games namin na may magandang performance, yung panalo talaga -- NU coach Norman Miguel
Already out of contention for a semis seat, National University’s motivation in their last elimination round matches is to just perform at their best and basically snatch a win if possible.
The Lady Bulldogs had the same mindset on Sunday when they faced University of the Philippines in their penultimate UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
NU was quick to quash any angle of playing the spoiler’s role for the desperate Lady Maroons after the Lady Bulldogs booted out UP, 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 23-25, 17-15, in the Final Four race.
“Actually hindi naman (spoilers), ang sa amin lang talaga purely i-end namin ang last two games namin na may magandang performance, yung panalo talaga,” said NU coach Norman Miguel.
For the rookie mentor, the victory was more of them wanting to build a momentum that they’ll bring next year rather than show the Lady Maroons the exit door.
“Hindi para i-oust ‘yung UP, hindi naman,” added Miguel, whose squad improved to 4-9 win-loss record. “It never crossed our minds na maging ganun. Basta maglaro lang kami, ipanalo, i-try ipanalo itong game na ‘to.”
It was a hard-earned win for the Lady Bulldogs as they needed to save a match point in the extended fifth set after taking a 13-10 lead. Rookie Princess Robles tied the set at 15 before the Lady Maroons committed a setting error in the next play as Audrey Paran finished the match with a kill.
NU’s win – a repeat of their first round conquest of the Diliman-based squad - gave Far Eastern University and University of Sto. Tomas a free ride to the Final Four to join league-leading Ateneo de Manila University and three-time defending champion De La Salle University.
The Lady Bulldogs will end their elims campaign against UST on April 27.
