Makikita mo naman po naka-yellow, naka-maroon parang na-shock lang po kami na nagtsi-cheer ang ibang school for us -- Audrey Paran
National University’s Audrey Paran drew laughter inside the media room during the Lady Bulldogs’ postgame interview.
Paran answered in jest when asked about their reaction when Far Eastern University and University of Sto. Tomas faithful inside the MOA Arena cheered for NU when they reached their second match point against University of the Philippines on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
“Na-shock nga kami may nagtsi-cheer sa amin,” said Paran as the room burst in laughter following NU’s 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 23-25, 17-15, win that booted out the Lady Maroons in the Final Four race.
The win gave the Lady Tamaraws and Tigresses free tickets to the semis a few moments before their scheduled match in the double-header playdate.
But the fourth year hitter cleared that she was referring to the UST and FEU fans who were cheering “NU! NU! NU!” as the Lady Bulldogs went up, 16-15, after Isa Molde miscalculated her tip attempt on a set that flew too close to the net.
“Di ko mini-mean na walang nagsu-support sa amin, kanina po. Ang meaning ko lang kasi makikita mo naman po naka-yellow, naka-maroon parang na-shock lang po kami na nagtsi-cheer ang ibang school for us,” Paran explained.
“’Yun ang mini-mean ko dun ha nothing against NU supporters. Baka ma-bash ako!” added Paran, who pounded the match-clinching hit that completed the Lady Bulldogs’ elimination round sweep of UP.
Rookie libero Jennifer Nierva supported Paran by saying that the gesture of the FEU and UST fans fueled their desire to take secure the win.
“Actually, nakaka-hype siya. Parang gusto mong lalo manalo kasi lahat ng crowd nasa inyo na eh. Kaya talagang sabi ko, ‘amin ‘to’,” said Nierva, who made up for her lackluster performance in NU’s loss to the Lady Tams in their previous outing with 30 digs and 27 excellent sets.
