UAAP 81 Football: AdU stuns UST for second win of the season
Rey Poncardas (30) scored in the second half to give Adamson their second win of the season.

Adamson University snatched their second win of the year, taking down Final Four-hunting University of Santo Tomas, 1-0 in the second round of the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament, Sunday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field.

After a scoreless first half, Adamson came out more aggressive in the second half, controlling the action on offense and keeping the Growling Tigers on their toes in the defensive end.

Midway through the second half, UST appeared to be within inches of scoring a goal, but the linesman waved it off, much to the chagrin of the Growling Tigers on and off the pitch.

The Soaring Falcons capitalized on the brief moment of confusion and charged back down the other end of the field.

A scramble near the UST goal led to Rey Poncardas getting the best of the situation and finding the back of the net to put Adamson ahead in the 64th minute.

Looking to avoid a loss and a blow to their playoff hopes, the Growling Tigers desperately searched for an equalizer and was able to get off a number of attempts but ultimately could not convert, as Adamson held on for the big win.

"I'm very happy with their performance, they followed our instructions to play a short passes game, and I think for that, talagang sinunod nila yung instructions namin," said first-year Adamson head coach Arvin Soliman.

Soliman also touched his players' quick reaction to the situation that led to the would-be deciding goal.

"Sabi ko sa kanila na pag nagkaroon ng chances for a counter-attack, we need to grab it. Kailangan talaga we need to be there sa bola at the right place, at the right time. Once na may opportunity for counter, talagang kailangan trabahuin yun, and good thing na-convert namin yung counter-attack na yun."

With the win Adamson improves to two wins, five draws, and six losses for eleven points this season, their, best output since coming back to the tournament in UAAP Season 77.

UST meanwhile, remains just outside the Final Four picture at fifth place with four wins, five draws, and three losses.
