UAAP Season 81: UST, FEU square off for third semis seat
University of Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University clash for a ticket to the Final Four.

University of Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University dispute the third semifinals ticket on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.

Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

The Tigresses and Lady Tamaraws are in a share of third and fourth with identical 8-4 win-loss record. The winner of the match will join league-leading Ateneo de Manila University and three-time defending champion De La Salle University in the Final Four.

“Must-win na, dito hindi ka na pwede matalo kung maaari,” said FEU mentor George Pascua, whose squad is looking to duplicate its 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25, victory over the Tigresses in the first round.

The Tams are coming off back-to-back victories over University of the Philippines and National University.

UST, on the other hand, is fresh from a straight sets demolition of the Lady Maroons last Wednesday.

“Sa amin importante ang last two games namin kasi at least doon kami pa ang mga control ng lahat,” said Tigers mentor Kungfu Reyes, who lost sophomore Milena Alessandrini to a season-ending left knee injury in UST’s first round meeting with the Lady Tams.

The match is a crucial one for the two squads as the loser could fall into a complicated situation in the race for the last semis seat.

Two losses by either squad in their last two assignments will put them in a possibility of a playoff for the no. 4 spot in case UP manages to win its remaining two outings.

UST will close its elims campaign against NU on April 27 while FEU’s last outing is against DLSU on April 28 in a rematch of last year’s Finals.
