University of Sto. Tomas targets to secure at least a Final Four twice-to-beat playoff.
University of Sto. Tomas can still vie for a UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four twice-to-beat advantage if fate would have it.
But first, the Tigresses need to accomplish something that they have control of on Saturday when they face the upset-conscious and very dangerous young team in National University at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
UST and NU march in their final elimination round assignment at 2:00 p.m. in a duel that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
The Tigresses made a return trip to the semifinals after missing the cut last year following a dominating 25-23, 25-18, 25-23, victory over Far Eastern University before the Holy Week break.
With a 9-4 win-loss record, the Espana-based squad can force a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage if it defeats the Lady Bulldogs and three-time defending champion De La Salle University (10-3) loses to the Lady Tams in a rematch of last year’s Finals on Sunday.
But if the Lady Spikers hurdle FEU, UST will occupy the no. 3 seed in the semis against the twice-to-beat no. 2 ranked team.
Still, the road to a possible semis advantage won’t be easy as the Tigresses would have to contend first against a feisty rookie-laden NU.
The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a morale-boosting five-set upset over University of the Philippines that ended the Lady Maroons bid for a Final Four seat.
NU sports a 4-9 record at sixth spot. UST defeated the Lady Bulldogs in their first meeting.
