Three different Blue Eagles got on the board as Ateneo de Manila took down University of the East, 3-0, to regain the top spot in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament, Sunday morning at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

It didn't take long for Ateneo to score, as Mark Nacional found the back of the net in just the fourth minute of action for an early 1-0 lead.

The Blue Eagles piled it on in the second half, as Jarvey Gayoso added another goal in the 68th minute, while Iñigo Herrera put on the finishing touches in the 86-minute mark.

"We're very happy talaga ngayon sa result, kasi we made the Final Four, so we get our first objective, we made it na," said Ateneo head coach Jaypee Merida following the win. "Of course, we need to go back again now for the second objective, to play better in the semifinals."

With the win, Ateneo jumps over Far Eastern University for the top spot with 26 points coming off 8 wins, 2 draws, and four losses. FEU sits two points behind at 24.

More than just securing the Final Four berth and potentially locking up the top seed, the Blue Eagles were able to avenge their first round loss to the Red Warriors, and more importantly bounce back from their loss to University of Santo Tomas in their previous outing.

The loss to UST was their first in the second round.

"[Very disappointing] yung last game namin against UST, but ang maganda lang dun ngayon, yung mentality ng players ko, talagang [they knew] na it was wrong preparation against yung sa UST. We were very complacent dun sa result, we though that kasama na kami sa Top 4. Yun siguro yung naging mali namin sa plan against UST."

"Yung maganda ngayon, we get the three points, most important yung three points, to be part of the Top 4."

The Blue Eagles end the eliminations round on a high note, and will now wait and see if they remain at the top of the standings.

FEU still has two matches to go and can finish with maximum of 30 points.

UE, meanwhile, remains at the bottom of the standings with 9 points off 2 wins, 3 draws, and 8 losses.
