Laban kung laban na yan eh. Sa semis wala na dapat excuses -- FEU coach George Pascua
Far Eastern University remains unfazed despite a twice-to-win handicap against Ateneo de Manila University, holding on to the proverbial ‘it’s anybody’s ballgame’, come UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four.
The Lady Tamaraws will take on the Lady Eagles in the race for a championship berth next weekend in a rematch of last year’s Final Four where FEU prevailed. But this time the Morayta-based squad will be the one looking to beat Ateneo, which swept them in the elims, twice for a return trip to the Finals.
Despite being at a disadvantage, Lady Tams coach George Pascua believes that they still have a good chance of making it back into the championship round and it won’t dampen their morale.
“Personally sa tingin ko wala. Laban kung laban na yan eh. Sa semis wala na dapat excuses,” said Pascua after his squad outlasted three-time defending champion De La Salle University, 25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 27-25, 15-8, Sunday to close their elimination round campaign on a high note.
“Basta ang importante naka-focus dun sa game plan. Yun naman ang orientation ko sa mga bata,” added Pascua after their win in the rematch of last year’s championship series.
FEU finished the round with a 9-5 win-loss record for the fourth seed in the semis. The win was the Lady Tams’ first victory over the Lady Spikers since forcing a do-or-die against DLSU in Season 78 Final Four.
“Kung manalo kami rito kahit papaano malaki ang boost ng morale sa mga players namin especially against La Salle ilang years kaming di nananalo,” he said. “So three years in the making so at least nanalo kami kahit na last game namin against them. Thankful kami kahit papaano nakalagpas kami na maganda ang finish namin ng second round.”
Pascua will now prepare his team for the battle ahead.
“So siyempre knowing naman Ateneo, powerhouse din naman ang team na ‘yun. Siyempre di kami titigil hanggan’t di namin naa-achieve ang goal namin,” said Pascua. “Pagtatrabahuhan pa namin. May mga ipa-polish na lang kami for Ateneo game and hopefully ma-achieve namin.”
