The Lady Tamaraws weathered Ateneo de Manila’s dangerous service game to carve out a thrilling 10-25, 25-23, 25-22, 12-25, 15-8, win on Saturday to force do-or-die match in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball Final Four at the MOA Arena.

Graduating hitter Heather Guino-o led FEU’s charge to set up sudden death for a championship berth on Wednesday.

"Overwhelmed siyempre pero hindi pa tapos eh. Hindi pa time to celebrate, marami pa kaming mga bagay na ipi-fix for Game 2 kasi I’m sure sa Game 2 ibang team ang makikita namin both team. Ibang intense na laro," said FEU coach George Pascua, who is looking to steer the Lady Tams back into the Finals after a runner-up finish last year.

Guino-o had eight kills, four kill blocks and five aces for 17 points for the Lady Tams, who survived Ateneo's 17 aces. Jeannette Villareal got 10 markers including eight from spikes while outgoing skipper Jerrili Malabanan and rookie France Ronquillo registered eight and seven markers, respectively, for FEU, which won its sixth of seven five-set matches this season.

The Lady Tams broke a 7-7 deadlock in the fifth set with a pivotal 6-0 rally capped by a Jerrili Malabanan hit for a 13-7 advantage. Maddie Madayag stopped the bleeding for Ateneo with a kill block on Malabanan, but Bea De Leon was called for four touches in the next play.

The Lady Eagles surrendered the game after Jules Samonte sent her attack long - Ateneo's last of seven miscues in the frame.

FEU took a 2-1 match lead, coming back from a disastrous opening set.

The Lady Eagles punished the Lady Tams in the fourth frame as they pounded FEU with seven aces. Ateneo opened a 10-3 lead in the set before the Lady Tams answered with a 6-1 blast to move within two, 9-11.

Madayag sparked the Lady Eagles' 12-2 scoring spark capped by a Bea de Leon quick attack for a 23-11 advantage. Samonte committed a service error, Ponggay Gaston scored on the next play before De Leon sealed the set with an ace.

Kat Tolentino finished with 21 points coming off 17 kills, three kill blocks and an ace while De Leon posted 16 markers highlighted by five aces for Ateneo, which missed the championship round last year for the first time in seven seasons after bowing down to then twice-to-beat FEU. Madayag added13 points for the Lady Eagles.
