National University welcomes the challenge of playing against a different rival after a five-year championship showdown with Ateneo de Manila University.
The Bulldogs entered the championship round for the seventh straight time but this time NU will try to defend the crown against Far Eastern University – a series that took six years to materialize.
Head coach Dante Alinsunurin knows that the Tams will be a very dangerous foe. The mentor sees FEU as tougher challenge compared to the Blue Eagles, who NU dethroned last year after a three-season reign.
“Kakaiba ito dahil ang makakalaban namin ngayon medyo ‘yung first six nila umiiskor lahat di tulad nu’ng sa Ateneo, alam namin kung sino lang ang babantayan namin, kung sino lang ang pag-aaralan namin” said Alinsunurin following the Bulldogs’ 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 drubbing of Adamson University on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball Final Four at the MOA Arena.
NU and FEU last met in the Finals back in Season 75 in a heated championship series that took three games to be decided in favor of the Bulldogs, who won their first of three crowns.
The second seed Tams defeated Ateneo last Saturday for their first Finals appearance in six years.
NU suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of FEU to open the season before winning 14 straight including a sweet revenge sweep over the Tams to end the elimination round.
Game 1 of the Finals is on May 11.
