UE keeps loading up for UAAP 82 with super scorer Mendoza
Jed Mendoza is another recruit who will be a big boost to UE's quest for a return to relevance

Make no mistake about it, University of the East will be ready for war in the upcoming UAAP 82.

Already named ABS-CBN's 2019 King of Recruiting, the Red Warriors are piling onto their already big-time offseason haul after securing the services of super scorer Jed Mendoza.

Mendoza is a big-bodied guard who stands 6-feet tall and who has the talent to make plays for himself. As Jose Rizal University's featured player a year ago, he posted per game counts of 15.8 points in 41 percent shooting on top of 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

The 23-year-old is, at present, showcasing his wares for Marinerong Pilipino in the 2019 PBA D-League where he is averaging 6.4 points in 42 percent shooting to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Unlike his time with the Heavy Bombers, Mendoza will not be needed to carry the load all by his lonesome as a Red Warrior.

In Recto, he may very well slide into the role as a sixth man, but may also be counted on to start, if ever.

UE's newest recruit already has a bachelor's degree from JRU and will now be taking a Masters course. As per UAAP rules, a student-athlete from a non-member school who is pursuing graduate studies in a member school shall not be subject to residency.

As a post-graduate student, however, he will only have one year of eligibility - much like what happened to Troy Rike in National University last year.

Mendoza is the second one-and-done recruit for the Red Warriors, following three-time champion and two-time MVP in the CESAFI Rey Suerte.

The two are joined by 6-foot-9 Senegalese Adama Diakhite, Hope Christian High School standout Harvey Pagsanjan,  former Ateneo de Manila University forward John Apacible, defensive stopper Neil Tolentino, Filipino-Kiwi Swingman Richie Rodger, and Filipino-Aussie guard Jasper Rentoy as the new faces out to bring Recto back to contention.
