Goldwin Monteverde is bringing along his winning tradition to the MPBL
Goldwin Monteverde, a multi-league champion coach in high school, is setting his sights on the bigger stage and brighter lights of the MPBL.
Monteverde, who has just led Nazareth School of National University to reclaiming the crown in the UAAP Jrs. and retaining the title in the NBTC, has officially signed on to be the shot-caller for Batangas City in the MPBL’s newest season tipping off in June.
The development was first reported by Fox Sports Philippines.
He takes over a team that won the regional league’s inaugural staging and then finished in the semifinals in the recently concluded Datu Cup.
Monteverde has already met his new challenge head on and has already secured the services of ex-UAAP Rookie of the Year Arvin Tolentino and former PBA draftee Jason Melano.
Batangas’ new tactician, though, made it clear that this post will not eat into his longtime stature over at NU. “Clear naman na priority niya kami,” a source within the Sampaloc-based squad said.
The Bullpups, backing the National Capital Region, are fresh off completing a three-peat in the Palarong Pambansa.
At present, the players and the coaching staff are enjoying in Hong Kong as reward for their dominant two months.
They remain the favorites for the next UAAP season with all of team captain Gerry Abadiano, super scorer Terrence Fortea, and twin towers Kevin Quiambao and Carl Tamayo returning.
