Dani Ravena came up big for Ateneo as they got back at Sisi Rondina-led UST

Sisi Rondina was the first and foremost problem Ateneo de Manila University had to solve if it were to stay alive and kicking in the UAAP 81 Women’s Volleyball Finals.

Rondina, the Season MVP, dropped 24 points and, by her lonesome, almost matched the Lady Eagles’ spikes, 20-24.

Without a doubt, something had to be done.

Fortunately for Katipunan, its Great Wall proudly stood once more in Game 2, Wednesday at MOA Arena.

If last time around, their blocking only accounted for five points, they closed down the door on their opponents eight times this time around.

And if and when attacks came through the blocks, Dani Ravena was right there to clean up the mess.

In fact, playing as libero for all of the match, she had 24 excellent digs and 12 excellent receives.

For all of that, her fire was actually fueled by the Ravena family. “Last night, my mom called. This morning, Thirdy. When I got here sa venue, Kiefer naman. Tapos si dad, palagi naman,” she shared, talking about mom Mozzy, kuyas Thirdy and Kiefer, and dad Bong.

She then continued, “I guess, they’ve been here for so many years and they know how it feels like to win and lose. I think that’s a blessing for me na they share their emotion, they share their passion.”

Along with her floor defense, the libero also made sure Ateneo was communicating - another one of their adjustments. “Definitely, we’re proud dun sa bata namin,” Maddie Madayag said of her.

She then continued, “Kailangan namin, maingay, nagli-lead sa loob. Not just us leaders, everybody has to do their job.”

For that, team captain Bea De Leon also had to give Ravena credit. As she put it, “She worked for it. I always tell her, ‘Dan, you've earned my respect.’”

She then continued, ”Today's a big day for her and I hope it keeps coming.”

For her part, the defensive specialist said she also got inspired by her graduating teammates in De Leon, Madayag, and Kim Gequillana. “How can you say no to the seniors na gusto pa nilang mag-training. I really want them to have a goodbye na wala kaming regrets,” she expressed.
