Mozzy Ravena is caught in the crossfire in the ongoing UAAP 81 Women's Volleyball Finals.
On one hand is University of Sto. Tomas, her alma mater where she won two championships as a volleyball player.
On the other is Ateneo de Manila University, her children's school where her daughter Dani is, in fact, playing volleyball at present.
The Ravena matriarch made it clear, however, that, in her mind, there is actually no question about who she's rooting for. "Unang-una, anak ko muna," she said.
She then continued through chuckles ,"Lumabas sa akin yun e. Importante siya sa life ko… At napamahal na siya sa akin."
That is exactly why, right after the Lady Eagles bowed to the Golden Tigresses in Game 1 on Saturday, mother Mozzy was ready and raring to lend a helping hand to daughter Dani. Asked if they would be talking about what happened at home, the former answered, "It's really more of as a mom. As a volleyball player, konti rin on my thoughts on the game."
She then continued, "Siyempre, it's still coach O [Oliver Almadro] kung ano ang game plan, but (I have) tips din (for Dani)."
Still, the elder Ravena couldn't help but be moved by the raucous Espana crowd that showed up last Saturday. "Alam mo yung, 'di ko na nga pinapansin, pero sa ulo ko, naririnig ko yung 'Go USTe,'" she shared.
And so, while she again made it a point to say that her support is with Dani, she also acknowledged that a part of her would also be glad if her alma mater would win its first title in a decade. "Siyempre, nalulungkot ako kasi it's Dani's first Finals appearance. In a sense din naman, I'm also happy for UST," she said.
She then continued, "Ang tagal ng drought tapos ngayon, unexpected pa. How things happened for them, medyo ang ganda rin ng storya."
At the end of it all, Mozzy Ravena is just happy to see the UST faithful roaring again. "Natural na for Dani ako, but for UST, siguro, it's just been so long kaya lahat, sama-sama to help out the team and help out (coach) Kung Fu [Reyes]," she said.
She then continued, "Kailangan niya lahat ng suporta na makukuha niya kaya okay yung ganyang community. Ibang klase rin."
She will be caught in the crossfire once more in Game 2 of the Finals on Wednesday.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
