UAAP Season 81 Finals: Tigresses, Lady Eagles in endgame
Who wants it more?

University of Sto. Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University battle for all the marbles on Saturday in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball Finals series at the MOA Arena.

Everything boils down to which team will want it more and give its all for honor and glory in the 3:00 p.m. season-concluding clash that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

The Lady Eagles refused to roll down and die in the best-of-three series after suffering a beatdown in Game 1 as Ateneo behind graduating stars Maddie Madayag and Bea De Leon and sophomore libero Dani Ravena controlled the vaunted offensive blitz of the Tigresses with good net and floor defense.

The Katipunan-based squad took Game 2 in four sets, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15, to tie the series at one game apiece last Wednesday.

Jules Samonte and Ponggay Gaston, who was limited to just a solitary point in Game 1, also delivered both on offense and in defense for the series equalizer. The duo together with Kat Tolentino are expected to deliver the same performance in the series decider to help Ateneo snap a four-year title drought.

The Tigresses, on the other hand, are quick to brush off their Game 2 loss, hoping to come back stronger to end a nine-year wait for the crown.

“May Game 3 pa. Yung mga positive words ni coach (Kungfu Reyes) nandun lagi. Babawi kami,” said Season Most Valuable Player and graduating hitter Sisi Rondina.

Rondina will need all the held she could get from her teammates especially with Rookie of the Year Eya Laure coming off a left ankle sprain that limited her effectivity in Game 2. Laura tweaked her ankle after a bad landing at the start of the third set.

UST will pin its hopes on rookies Ysa Jimenez and Kecelyn Galdones as well as from veterans Caitlyn Viray, setter Alina Bicar and libero Rica Rivera.
