Sisi Rondina would want Kim Chiu to portray her in a hypothetical "Maalaala Mo Kaya" episode on her life
Sisi Rondina has inspired not only University of Sto. Tomas, but also just about everybody in the recently concluded UAAP 81 Women's Volleyball Tournament.
Rondina - a 5-foot-6 outside hitter who has great hops and great hammers and an even greater heart - willed the Golden Tigresses to their first Finals in eight years and first Final Four since 2017.
This, after she had already led the Espana-based school to a three-peat in Women's Beach Volleyball.
At the end of it all, there was no objection that the Beach and Indoor Volleyball MVP was recognized as the Athlete of the Year for Team Sports.
Also at the end of it all, there was no objection that Rondina is now the stuff of legend - so much so that her life story is already being discussed for a possible episode on "Maalaala mo Kaya."
According to her, one of the researchers of the show contacted her last Sunday to talk about all the possibilities. "Kinakausap na ako," she said. She added that the idea will be pitched to the creative team first.
For that, she only acknowledged to be overjoyed. Asked what she felt right then and there, she answered, "OMG. OMG. I'm thankful na gusto nilang marinig ang buhay ko."
Of course, there was no way the Golden Tigresses' captain was missing an opportunity to inspire more people. As she put it, "Masaya kasi maraming makaalam ng buhay ko from ups and downs tapos ngayon. Sana, makaka-inspire siya."
She then continued, "Kasi matatawag natin na minsan lang e, pero sinwerte. Yung nagdesisyon ka na hindi mo alam pero ikaw yung big-time sa pagdesisyon sa gusto mo. Sana, if ever lang, makatulong and maka-inspire yun (sa iba)."
With the ball already rolling for her life story to be possibly told in a 28-year institution in television, she only had one wish. "Si Kim Chiu na," she answered through chuckles after being asked who would portray her.
If it pushes through, she could become the second student-athlete in UAAP Season 81 to have their life story be told in "Maalaala Mo Kaya." The episode on the University of the Philippines icon Paul Desiderio, played by Ronnie Alonte, aired last January.
