Godfrey Okumu ia still the University of the Philippines women's volleyball head coach.
Godfrey Okumu will remain as the University of the Philippines women's volleyball head coach.
The school released a statement on Monday after rumors circulated on social media that the Kenyan mentor will be replaced after the Lady Maroons' sorry result in the UAAP Season 81.
"The College of Human Kinetics wishes to clarify that coach Godfrey Okumu is still the head coach of the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons Women's Volleyball team," according to the statement released by UP College of Human Kinetics signed by Dean Francis Carlos Diaz and endorsed by UP Chancellor Michael Tan.
"Mr. Okumu has a live contract with the UP College of Human Kinetics and the University of the Philippines, and as such, will continue to coach, train and recruit players for the UPWVT," the statement continued. "Coach Godfrey's relationship with other entities involved in the volleyball sport does not include or affect his current position in the UP team."
Okumu replaced Jerry Yee two years ago. He steered the Lady Maroons to back-to-back titles in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference and the Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam last year.
But the Lady Maroons' success in the offseason did not translate in the UAAP as UP missed the Final Four for the third straight year.
