Marvin Lee has played his last game in black and gold
University of Sto. Tomas will be without its longest tenured player come UAAP Season 82.
Former team captain Marvin Lee has elected to forgo his fifth and final playing year, Growling Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo confirmed Friday.
According to the multi-league champion coach, he had urged Lee two weeks ago to instead set his sights on starring for Manila in the oncoming MPBL Lakandula Cup. “I advised Marvin na mag-focus sa MPBL kasi marami na kaming point (guard),” he shared.
He then continued, “We have Renzo [Subido], we have Mark Nonoy, we have Mahloney Tarranza, Brent [Paraiso] also plays point kaya andami na naming maliliit. I told him na ayaw ko namang sa last year mo, uupo ka."
Indeed, Espana's backcourt is filled to the brim with young talent as recuperating sophomore star CJ Cansino and prized rookie Deo Cuajao can also be considered as guards.
That is exactly why Coach Aldin believes that it can benefit Lee better if the latter will turn his attention to the Stars. "Kaya he will now pursue playing in the MPBL," the former said.
The 5-foot-8 posted per game counts of 14.4 points on top of 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals in what turned out to be his last season in black and gold.
Still, the fiery mentor made it clear that Lee remains in UST - as a student. "But he also has to finish his studies first. May scholarship pa rin siya sa UST," he said.
