When Dave Ildefonso willed a short stab through all of Simon Camacho, Lenda Douanga, and Aaron Flowers last Saturday, that looked like it was the game-winner to lift National University over Adamson University.
Only, Douanga had other plans and his improbable three-point shot snatched away victory from the jaws of the Bulldogs and seized it for the Soaring Falcons.
After the Congolese big man made that triple, the look on Ildefonso's face was the dictionary definition of being shell-shocked.
Asked about that moment post-game, the second-year swingman answered, "Nung nakuha ni Douanga (yung inbound), sabi ko 'Yes! Yes!' Eh pagtira, kita ko diretso tapos pasok."
He then continued, "Pagtingin ko na lang, tumakbo na si Douanga tapos nagse-celebrate na. Props to him kasi yung dibdib niya, alam mong buo na."
Of course, Ildefonso can only acknowledge that he and his teammates were disappointed at losing a matchup that majority of which, they were in control of. As he put it, "Disappointing sa una, pero sa tingin ko, sabi ni God, sa kanila talaga yung laro eh. Ginawa ko naman lahat nang makakaya ko pati teammates ko."
Nonetheless, the fact that NU was oh so close to downing an Adamson side being pegged as a title contender is actually a morale-booster. "This year, mas kumpyansa kami kesa last year kasi yung core namin is really intact," Ildefonso said.
He then continued, "After this game, we won't be down. Alam naming kaya naming manalo."
The Bulldogs try once more to finish off a win when they take on De La Salle University on Wednesday.
