Ateneo de Manila University had no problems whatsoever against Far Eastern University for a wire-to-wire 63-46 win that extended its unbeaten start to the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament, Saturday at MOA Arena.
The Blue Eagles went on an 11-0 run to start the game and never looked back to remain unscathed through four games in its title defense.
Ange Kouame powered the engine with a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double while Thirdy Ravena had his own 12 markers and 10 boards.
Adrian Wong also turned in his best game of the season with 13 points on top of five assists as the defending champions started strong with 11 unanswered points after tip-off and which then became an 18-3 edge early.
Their advantage would only go as high as 19 as their defense stood strong all throughout, stifling their opponents to only 29 percent shooting from the field. "Credit to our boys for the defense they played against FEU. That was not easy," head coach Tab Baldwin said post-game.
Indeed, Ateneo forced the Tamaraws to 17 turnovers which they quickly converted into 18 points.
Of all players, though, it was Will Navarro who received the highest praise from his mentor. "We have to give credit to Will Navarro," the former said of the latter who only had four points to his name, but was a +30 in all of the game.
For FEU, Barkley Ebona and Xyrus Torres topped the scoring column with eight points apiece. Unable to get going, however, they dropped to 1-2 in the standings.
