Far Eastern University rode the hot hands of Wendell Comboy to return to the win column in the UAAP 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament with a 66-55 triumph over De La Salle University, Wednesday at MOA Arena.
Comboy scored just 11 points, but all but three of those came in the last nine minutes as the Tamaraws were quelling each and every uprising from the Green Archers.
FEU was last threatened at 53-59 inside the last four minutes before its fourth-year guard fired five unanswered points to put it back up, 64-53.
They would not look back from there and improved to 2-2. "I'm just proud of the way we played today coming off that loss to Ateneo. I'm happy with the way we responded today coming off that loss," head coach Olsen Racela said, referring to their double-digit defeat at the hands of the defending champions last Saturday.
Before Comboy's outburst, however, it was Cameroonian tower Patrick Tchuente who stood as the pillar for the Tamaraws and totaled a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with two blocks.
Jamie Malonzo paced La Salle with 20 points and 15 rebounds in his return from a left wrist injury. Andrei Caracut was the only other double-digit scorer, however, as they fell for the second straight time and third overall in four games.
