Dave Ildefonso shot National University within 79-80 of the University of the Philippines, Wednesday at MOA Arena.
And after sending David Murrell to the line where he muffed on two free throws, the Bulldogs even got a golden opportunity to complete a comeback.
Of course, they put the ball in the hands of Ildefonso who was immediately met by three defenders in Jun Manzo, David Murrrell, and Kobe Paras.
And so, the second-year star passed the ball to John Lloyd Clemente who had a good look, but was immediately closed out on by Jaydee Tungcab.
The result of that? A forced long two that fell way short of the ring.
And the result of that? A fourth heartbreaking loss in a row for National U.
"Yung last shot, ganun talaga e. May pumapasok, may 'di pumapasok," Clemente answered when asked about his last shot. "Sakto, yung tira ko, 'di pumasok, pero gustong-gusto kong makabawi kasi maganda yung pasa ni Dave."
It was at that point in the interview that Ildefonso himself came around and claimed he still has full faith in his fellow sophomore stud. "Masu-shoot niya yan sa susunod! Masu-shoot niya yan," he said.
And that is exactly why Clemente vows to return that trust the next time around. As he put it, "Ayun nga, sabi niya, sa susunod, masu-shoot ko na talaga yun!"
And so, the next time the two will have to connect to win a game, Dave I. will not think twice about letting JLC take the last shot. "Sa judgment ko, tama ang desisyon ko kasi 100 percent ang trust ko kay JLC. That's the right decision no matter what," the former said of the latter.
