Adamson University looked dead in the water with three minutes remaining in its matchup with University of Sto. Tomas, Wednesday at MOA Arena.

And then, Valandre Chauca came alive to energize a 16-0 run that eventually ended as the Soaring Falcons' 78-71 come-from-behind victory versus the Growling Tigers.

"We got a big lift from Val. That's why he's here. He's here to guide this young team," head coach Franz Pumaren said post-game.

The Filipino-Peruvian guard dropped 11 of his 18 points in the final frame while Jerrick Ahanmisi had his own 24 markers as they barged back into the win column now at 3-2.

Chauca and Ahanmisi did the most damage in the last three minutes, merging for 11 points in their contest-closing tear that erased a 62-71 deficit and erected a seven-point win. "We needed this game to boost our confidence back," coach Franz said.

Those were bookended by Jerom Lastimosa who had a triple and a couple of charities in the same timeframe and wound up with six points on top of five assists and four rebounds.

The Adamson defense also did its part, turning on the pressure cooker and forcing Mark Nonoy, Brent Paraiso, and Renzo Subido into errors.

Ultimately, the Soaring Falcons held UST scoreless and ultimately, the two teams now stand at joint third in the standings. "We needed this game to boost our confidence back," coach Franz said.

Chauca also tallied eight assists and six rebounds while Ahanmisi added four boards and three dimes to make sure their side bounced back from a sorry loss to the University of the Philippines just three days ago.

For the Growling Tigers, Soulemane Chabi Yo topped the scoring column with 17 points on top of 15 rebounds while CJ Cansino, Sherwin Concepcion, and Mark Nonoy had 10 markers apiece.

Unable to buy a basket in the last three minutes, though, their momentum got stopped.
