University of Sto. Tomas was three minutes away from a statement win against Adamson University, Wednesday.
Valandre Chauca had other plans, however, and dropped seven of his 18 points in the Soaring Falcons' 16-0 run to close the contest.
The final score? 78-71 in favor of the San Marcelino-based squad.
Along with his scoring output, most of which coming in the clutch, the Filipino-Peruvian playmaker also tallied eight assists and six rebounds. "We got a big lift from Val. That's why he's here. He's here to guide this young team," head coach Franz Pumaren said.
And this is not the first time he has been an unsolvable riddle for the Growling Tigers.
Back when he was still suiting up for FamilyMart-Enderun in the 2019 PBA D-League, he scored 31 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists in their upset of Ironcon-UST.
Make no mistake, however, Chauca has no ill will towards the black and gold. "I don't know, I'm not really sure. Every game, I approach the same way," he answered when asked what it was with facing off against the Growling Tigers.
He then continued, "Whoever is in front of me, I just go out and try to kill my opponent whoever it is."
Indeed, the one-and-done guard only vows to bring that attitude moving forward. "The goal is pretty simple - go to the Finals and win the Finals. Personally, I wanna win MVP so I wanna be very efficient," he said.
He then continued, "Just bottom line, I wanna keep winning."
