Far Eastern University became National University's first-ever victims in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.
And not only did the Bulldogs pull out the win, they actually pounded on the Tamaraws.
Dave Ildefonso was the biggest thorn on the side of the green and gold and at one point in the game, had more points than all of his opponents, 14-13.
In the end, the most that FEU scored in a quarter was 15, which came in the final period, and only shot 15-of-79 from the field.
And for head coach Olsen Racela, that is only expected with the way they played today. "Bottomline is my team didn't show up today and that's what's gonna happen if you don't show up in games this season," he said.
He then continued, "Whether you play NU or the strongest team, if you don't show up, you will get blown up."
Coach Olsen then furthered that, this season, the playing field is as level as it has ever been. "Kailangan every game, you bring your a-game. If you don't, ganito ang mangyayari."
That isn't true for all of the Tamaraws, though.
In fact, Barkley Ebona never quit whatever the deficit and wound up with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double. "Sayang kasi binigay ko lahat, pero mas pipiliin ko pa yung zero ako sa game basta manalo lang kami," he said.
Nonetheless, Ebona said FEU remains upbeat, but at the same time, now feels the sense of urgency to get going. "Practice kami bukas at papag-aralan kung saan kami nagkamali tapos try naming mag-bounce back ulit. Two straight na kaming talo kaya 'di na kami pwedeng matalo ng pangatlo," he said.
