At long last, the Bulldogs have been let out in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.

National University finally broke through the glass ceiling by bringing the pain to hapless Far Eastern University, 61-39, Wednesday at MOA Arena.

Dave Ildefonso was a man on a mission right from tip-off, propelling his side to a blazing 16-4 beginning.

And early in the third quarter, Ildefonso actually had more points than all of their opponents, with 14 of National U's 41 points as compared to the Tamaraws' 13.

The Bulldogs' defense was just as dominant, suffocating go-go guards Wendell Comboy and L-Jay Gonzales from start of finish with the former finishing with just two points, 0-of-10 from the field, and the latter ending with four markers, 2-of-11 from the field.

In the end, Ildefonso had 20 points in 8-of-15 shooting on top of eight rebounds as they registered a wire-to-wire win as their breakthrough win in the tournament.

This, following five losses in a row - three of which were by one point and one of which was in overtime. "We could have easily been 5-1 or 4-2 at this point, but we stayed the course and we were gifted with a win," head coach Jamike Jarin said as he was entering his first post-win interview in the season.

The second-year star was the lone scorer in double-digits, but the defense definitely needed total team effort to force the Tamaraws into missing 64 of their 79 shots from the field. "The reason why I brought all these young men here is because we win together, we lose together," coach Jamike said as he was surrounded by all 16 of his players inside the press room.

For FEU, Barkley Ebona was the lone bright spot with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double. Misfiring all game long, they dropped to 2-3 in the season.
