Three days ago, Aljun Melecio threw up a lead pass to Kurt Lojera inside the last minute of the matchup between De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines.

Only, it was intercepted by Juan Gomez de Liano who then proceeded to take the ball back to his side of the court and then take and then make the game-winning triple.

And so, even after leading for 96.7 percent of the game, the Green Archers ultimately fell to the Fighting Maroons.

Of course, Melecio felt that loss was all on him. "Siyempre, sinisisi ko sarili ko dun. As a veteran, 'di na pwedeng magawa yung ganung turnover," he said.

He then continued, "For sure, naging learning experience yun for me."

Indeed, the next time he took the court, the Green Archers' fourth-year guard only had one turnover to his name.

That ballhandling was alongside a 26-point outing built on six triples as well as five assists. "Lumalabas lang talaga kung ano yung wino-work out mo. Extra work lang talaga yun and swerte na ngayon lumabas," he said.

And those impressive numbers eventually ended as a much-needed win for the Taft-based team. "Napagod na kaming matalo," Melecio said as their mighty rebound had to come after back-to-back losses.

Also, it had to come at the expense of University of Sto. Tomas - a team now guided by head coach Aldin Ayo. "Gusto kong maglaro ng 100 percent kasi the way na pinapakita ko respect sa kalaban is giving my best. Si coach Aldin, siyempre, sobrang laki ng respeto ko sa kanya," the 5-foot-8 playmaker said, talking about the man who had mentored him in his first two years in the UAAP Srs.

He then continued, "Siya bumuo ng pagkatao ko sa college basketball and siya nagbigay ng kumpyansa sa akin nung rookie pa lang ako. The way na papasalamatan ko siya is to play every possession like it's the last possession."

With that, Melecio is only hoping he and all of La Salle will build on this momentum. As he put it, "Hopefully, madala namin 'tong confidence na 'to sa Round 2."
