University of Sto. Tomas’ Soulemane Chabi Yo is at the head of the pack of the MVP race in the UAAP 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Chabi Yo finished the first round with 82.71 Statistical Points (SPs) built on averages of 19.9 points, 15.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.
The Beninese ball of energy has wasted no time making an immediate impact for the third-running 4-3 Growling Tigers.
Breathing down his neck, however, is Ateneo de Manila University’s Ange Kouame who accumulated 81.43 SPs accumulated from norms of 14.0 points, 13.1 rebounds, 4.9 blocks, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 assists.
The Ivorian tower has remained as a post-presence for the league-leading and undefeated Blue Eagles a year after he was recognized as top rookie.
Following suit is the University of the Philippines awesome twosome of Bright Akhuetie and Kobe Paras with 69.0 and 65.2 SPs, respectively, and then University of the East bruiser Alex Diakhite with 64.83 SPs.
Red Warrior Rey Suerte, De La Salle University’s Jamie Malonzo and Justine Baltazar, Blue Eagle Thirdy Ravena, and Adamson University’s Lenda Douanga round out the top 10.
When the time comes to determine the Mythical Team, only one foreign student-athlete will be included.
This, due to the league rule that states that selections to the Mythical Team will be determined by their listed position.
All of Chabi Yo, Kouame, Akhuetie, Diakhite, and Douanga are listed at center and, as such, only one among them will be a Mythical selection.
That also means that up for grabs are two spots for forwards and two spots for guards.
