Rookie Xyrus Torres went online, Saturday at MOA Arena, as Far Eastern University warded off Adamson University, 83-71, and ultimately wrested away a much-needed mighty rebound in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.

The first-year swingman found his touch and finished with 21 points to shoot the Tamaraws back into the win column now at 3-4. "All we wanted was to win our last game in the first round. That was the very objective of this game," consultant Nash Racela said after they moved into a three-team logjam for the fourth-seed.

Torres' back-to-back bombs highlighted the 13-2 blast that widened a once five-point gap, 55-50, late in the third quarter to a 68-52 lead entering the final frame.

The Soaring Falcons threatened to as near as five more than a few times, but FEU had the quick counter for each and every one of them.

Alongside their rookie sharpshooter, Cameroonian Pat Tchuente also had a career-best 21-point, 19-rebound double-double on top of six blocks while Barkley Ebona had his own eight markers, eight boards, and five assists.

The Tamaraws needed all of those to move forward after a sorry loss last Wednesday which saw them miss 64 of their 79 shots from the field and become the first victim of National University. "It wasn't easy to come back from our previous loss. All of a sudden, we doubled it in today's game," consultant Nash said.

Meanwhile, Adamson was dragged down into the same standing as their conquerors.

Valandre Chauca showed the way for them with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while Jerrick Ahanmisi also added 12 markers of his own. The two, however, merged to shoot 10-of-36 from the field.
