National University has two wins to show in nine games in the UAAP 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament - and both have come at the expense of Far Eastern University.

The Bulldogs yet again solved the Tamaraws’ puzzle, but not before the former held off a late charge by the latter for a hardfought 85-79 overtime win, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum.

National U lost a lead as big as 18 and saw its 15-point edge, 65-50, in the final frame go away just like that as FEU scored 17 unanswered points to snatch away a two-point advantage, 67-65, with two minutes left.

Dave Ildefonso and John Lloyd Clemente came up clutch for the blue and gold, however, and their two triples boosted them back ahead, 71-69, with 19.8 ticks to go in regulation.

At the other end, though, Barkley Ebona willed an inside basket through two defenders to tie the tally and, ultimately, force overtime.

There, Ildefonso and Clemente again each hit one long-range missiles to punctuate an 8-0 run for a 79-71 lead.

That lead would be more than enough this time around as NU breathed much needed life into its playoff hopes.

In the end, Ildefonso posted a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double to his name while Clemente pumped in 15 markers and eight boards of his own.

Issa Gaye had his own 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Bulldogs, still at the bottom of the standings, climb higher. "Sila naman yung bida," a beaming head coach Jamike Jarin as he brought all of his players once more inside the press room for the post-win interview.

For the Tamaraws, Ebona showed the way with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Royce Alforque and Wendell Comboy also added 11 markers apiece.

Unable to build on their big victory versus the University of the Philippines last Sunday, however, they fall to fifth in the leaderboard at 4-5.
