Thirdy Ravena is the first player to breach 20 points for Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.
Ravena spread his wings as wide as they have ever been in the tournament with 23 points on top of five assists and five rebounds as the Blue Eagles flew higher than Adamson University, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum.
For the graduating forward himself, though, he actually had a bad game. "Masama, masama yung linaro ko. Ito yung isa sa mga games na nanalo ka, pero feeling mo, natalo ka," he told reporters post-game.
Ravena's frustrations were rooted on how they - and him, in particular - wrapped up the win. "Honestly, yung play na naka-three points si Ahanmisi na bumuhay sa kanila is actually my bad. Coach Tab actually communicated to us the exact same play at kung ano yung dapat gawin namin yet hindi ko sinunod yung play.," he shared.
He then continued, "Tapos na dapat yung laro, pero nagka-chance sila at nagka-shot manalo. I feel like I let the team down dahil hindi ako nakinig kay coach. It's my bad and it's something I need to work on."
The 22-year-old was referring to Jerrick Ahanmisi's triple with 21.3 ticks to go on the clock that pulled the Soaring Falcons within four, 71-75, of the Blue Eagles.
Ravena was sent to the line at the other end and converted his couple of charities, but was also subbed out of the game and got a talking to from his mentor afterward.
In the end, Ateneo still pulled off the win, and its do-it-all wing was a big part of that, but all of them are far from satisfied with it.
"I want to compliment Adamson kasi they outworked us and mas focused sila sa amin, mas gusto nila manalo sa amin," Ravena said. "It doesn't matter if maganda laro mo if hindi maganda yung laro ng team so para sa akin, there's a lot to improve on to be greater as a team."
