Adamson University put up a fight, but ultimately bowed to defending champion Ateneo de Manila University last Wednesday.
"I guess it shows there's no substitute for championship experience - Ateneo showed that today," head coach Franz Pumaren told reporters. "That's why they're on top - because they have poise down the stretch."
Still, the fact of the matter is that the Soaring Falcons are just the second team to lose only in single-digits to the Blue Eagles. "(Our) effort was great today," their mentor expressed.
At the same time, though, that effort was what was missing as of late for the San Marcelino-based squad which has now lost four straight. "If we would have played like that in the past games, I don't think we'd be in this situation," Coach Franz said.
Nonetheless, Adamson remains upbeat about its chances - even though they stand at joint sixth in the standings. As their shot-caller put it, "If you look at the scenarios right now in the UAAP, almost all of the teams, except Ateneo, they're on par with each other."
That is exactly why Coach Franz only has full faith that he will be guiding the Soaring Falcons in the playoffs for the fourth season in a row. "I think this is expected being a young team, pero I was telling them nga, we don't need to panic. This is just probably a hump that we have to go through," he shared.
He then continued, "The way I look at it, we're still gonna make it to the Final Four. I'm confident about that."
