L-Jay Gonzales and Royce Alforque were firing on all cylinders, Sunday at MOA Arena as Far Eastern University forced University of Sto. Tomas into playing its game for a convincing 72-58 victory.

Gonzales and Alforque ran circles all around their counterparts with the former finishing with 17 points and six rebounds and the latter with the 16 markers, six assists, and four boards to spark the Tamaraws’ charge back into the win column of the UAAP 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament now at 5-5.

That two-headed monster at the backcourt also got together with Xyrus Torres, Wendell Comboy, and Rey Bienes to deliver the knockout blow for the Morayta-based squad.

After Rhenz Abando and Mark Nonoy drilled back-to-back bombs to pull the Growling Tigers within two, 51-53, inside the last nine minutes, Gonzales and Alforque masterfully orchestrated a 19-5 response that widened their gap to 72-56 with 42.9 ticks to go.

Not long after, FEU was celebrating a big-time win that forges a tie for the third spot with the team it had just downed.

In all, the Tamaraws outdid UST and its high-octane offense as the former finished shooting 9-of-27 from deep and the latter ended shooting 9-of-42 from downtown.

They also slowed down their opponents, well-known for running and gunning, to just seven fastbreak points.

At the other end, Bienes had nine points, Comboy had seven points, and Torres had five points while Alec Stockton also added 10 markers of his own.

For the Growling Tigers, Brent Paraiso topped the scoring column with 12 points while Rhenz Abando and Zach Huang chimed in 11 markers apiece.

Unable to run and gun, however, they lost for the third time in the last four games.
