UAAP 82: NU clinches first girls’ volleyball semis berth
Nazareth School of National University demolished defending champion De La Salle-Zobel to punch the first Final Four ticket.

Nazareth School of National University clinched the first postseason berth after dumping defending champion De La Salle-Zobel, 25-9, 25-14, 25-8, in the UAAP Season 82 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Sunday.

Mhicaela Belen exploded with 21 points on 14 spikes, five aces, and two blocks while Jean Jamili chipped in six service aces to finish with 12 markers as NU stretched its unbeaten run to eight games.

"We are very happy na pasok na kami sa Final Four pero siyempre, the girls and I have one goal -- gusto namin talagang mag champion this year para mabawi namin yung nangyari last year," said Lady Bullpups coach Regine Diego.

Irah Jaboneta led La Salle-Zobel with six points as Angel Canino scored two points in two sets in her first game back since suffering an MCL injury.

The Junior Lady Spikers absorbed their third-straight loss and slid to 3-5.

Lady Bullpup Evangeline Alinsug did not suit up after suffering a right knee contusion during practice. She is expected to play in their next game against UPIS.

In the other matches, University of Santo Tomas thwarted Adamson University, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, while University of the East snapped its seven-game skid at the expense of University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-13, 25-17, 25-20.

Regina Jurado registered 19 points on 11 hits and seven service aces while Juliana Carreon poured in 15 points as the Junior Tigresses rose to 7-2.

UST libero Det Pepito protected the floor well with 29 digs and 15 excellent receptions.

Kate Santiago was the lone bright spot for Adamson (5-4) with 16 markers.

Freighanne Garcia registered 12 points built on nine spikes and three blocks while Chris Ann Susbilla chalked up 11 points off eight attacks and three service aces as UE improved to 2-7.

Jeulyanna Ferrer got 10 points in a losing cause as UPIS dropped its ninth straight game.
