Rhenz Abando is not injured and is not ill - and yet he did not suit up in University of Sto. Tomas’ triumph over the University of the Philippines last Wednesday.

Asked about the development, Growling Tigers’ head coach Aldin Ayo answered on Wednesday that he’d rather not talk about it.

As it turns out, though, Abando’s absence in the game was a decision by team management as the latter hoped to clear the air with the former.

That discussion finally came to be on Thursday as Coach Aldin, team management, and school officials met with their first-year forward.

There, Abando apparently shared his side about reports that he had been listening to feelers to transfer from other schools.

And there, the 21-year-old apparently assured the Espana-based squad that he is here to stay.

"He's always been committed to UST," Ayo said. "In-affirm niya sa amin ngayon na he's here to stay until the end of his collegiate career."

Abando has taken the league by storm in his first year, posting per game counts of 11.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 assists all while being a key cog in the Growling Tigers' climb back to contention. UST is currently in solo third place at 6 - 5.

Now, the 6-foot-2 wing is apparently all set to be back in action for the black and gold as early as Saturday when they take on National University.

ABS-CBN Sports has reached out to Abando for comment, but he has chosen to stay mum on the matter as of press time.
