ANTIPOLO - University of Sto. Tomas remained entrenched at third-place in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament after routing National University, 88-76, Saturday at Ynares Center here.

CJ Cansino turned in the best game of his sophomore season with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals and towed the Growling Tigers to back-to-back wins and seventh overall in 12 games.

He definitely wasn't alone, though, as MVP contender Soulemane Chabi Yo, veteran playmaker Renzo Subido, super rookie Mark Nonoy, and inspired Rhenz Abando were right there with him as they ran over and gunned down the Bulldogs. "Lots of players stepped up. They just played basketball," head coach Aldin Ayo said post-game.

Those four, alongside many more, got together in what proved to be the killer blow for UST, a 21-10 rush that re-increased a 65-56 lead into double-digits, 86-66, with under three minutes left. "They were having fun out there. They enjoyed the game, but we know when they were doing that, may kasamang responsibility," coach Aldin said.

They wouldn't be threatened the rest of the way as they strengthened their stranglehold on the third-seed and crept closer to 6-4 University of the Philippines at the second spot.

In the end, Chabi Yo posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double; Subido and Nonoy poured in 14 and 12 markers, respectively; and Abando pumped in nine points and five rebounds in his first game since finding himself in the middle of controversy.

On the other hand, with this latest loss, National U dropped to 2-9 and now drops out of the playoff race.

Dave Ildefonso did his all to will them in this one with 27 points, six rebounds, and four assists while kuya Shaun had his own 13 markers and seven boards.
