ANTIPOLO — The UST Growling Tigers were in for a rather interesting week after rising star Rhenz Abando was the center of some off-court issues.

Abando sat out Wednesday’s game after UST swept the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament.

A day later, it was revealed that Abando was actually the target of other UAAP schools for an apparent transfer.

The rumors of an impending move were quickly squashed though, and Abando was to stay with the Growling Tigers.

“He's always been committed to UST," head coach Aldin Ayo said of Abando.

"In-affirm niya sa amin ngayon na he's here to stay until the end of his collegiate career," he added.

Abando suited up for UST’s next game Saturday here, which was against the NU Bulldogs.

He scored nine points in 17 minutes. Abando and the rest of the Growling Tigers beat the Bulldogs for their seventh win and they had fun doing it too.

“Lots of players stepped up. They just played basketball, they were having fun,” Ayo said of his team.

“They enjoyed the game but we know na they’re doing that na may kasamang responsibility,” he added.
