Far Eastern University moved closer to clinching a playoff berth in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament after mowing down Adamson University, 63-60, Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum.

The Tamaraws charged to back-to-back wins now in the stretch run of the tournament as well as their seventh overall in 13 games - well inside the top four of the standings.

They only scored one point in the last three minutes of the game, but their definitive defense did just enough for them to hold onto the win.

Up by 10 late, FEU witnessed the Soaring Falcons come as close as two, 60-62, at the 1:42 mark of the final frame.

From there, though, they clamped down on Jerrick Ahanmisi, Jerom Lastimosa, and Val Chauca - all of whom kept missing the mark until the final buzzer.

At the other end, L-Jay Gonzales' split from the stripe with 1:28 left also gave the Tamaraws more breathing room to triumph for the fifth time in their last seven games.

Gonzales wound up with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists while Wendell Comboy had his own 11 markers and seven boards.

At the same time, the green and gold's win has locked the Soaring Falcons out of the playoff picture.

Now at 4-8, they will be unable to chase down either 7-6 FEU or 7-5 University of Sto. Tomas for the last two playoff berths.

That means that for the first time in four years under head coach Franz Pumaren, they will not be playing in the next round.

Topping the scoring column for them in this one were three players with 10 points apiece in Ahanmisi, rookie Aaron Fermin, and Congolese Lenda Douanga.

FEU 63 - Comboy 11, Gonzales 11, Tuffin 11, Bienes 6, Stockton 6, Nunag 5, Ebona 4, Tchuente 4, Torres 3, Alforque 2, Cani 0.

ADAMSON 60 - Ahanmisi 10, Douanga 10, Fermin 10, Lastimosa 9, Camacho 6, Manlapaz 5, Sabandal 4, Mojica 3, Yerro 2, Chauca 1, Bernardo 0, Magbuhos 0.

QUARTER SCORES: 22-12, 43-31, 50-41, 63-60.
