ANTIPOLO - Ateneo de Manila University put on a master class on beautiful basketball, Saturday at Ynares Center here, and pounded on hapless National University for a dominant 88-51 decision that puts them one win away from a clean sweep of the elimination round in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Blue Eagles saw the Bulldogs score the first basket of the game, but that was the last taste of the lead the former would have as the latter just imposed their will from there. "This was satisfying. Two weeks in a row, we've come out with a great attitude," head coach Tab Baldwin said post-game.

After JV Gallego's layup to commence the contest, the defending champions scored 11 unanswered points with four different players contributing.

That ultimately became an 18-4 response punctuated by Gian Mamuyac's triple that wrested control over to their side for good.

Ateneo would only increase its lead to as many as 37 late courtesy of Troy Mallillin's reverse layup.

The discipline at both ends was yet again in full effect, but they also got for themselves more than a few highlights and wound up with the most dunks in a single game for any team this season.

Three of those were by Ange Kouame who also totaled 17 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and three assists while Thirdy Ravena had a dunk of his own as part of 15 markers on top of four boards and three dimes.

Ravena was also part of a defense by committee that included Gian Mamuyac and BJ Andrade that suffocated National U top gun Dave Ildefonso to only two points in 1-of-5 shooting. "Sure we put points on the board and made some shots, but I think what we really focused on was our defense," their mentor said.

In all, all but one of the 14 players sent in by coach Tab appeared in the scoring column for the defending champions.

Hammering away at their long-eliminated opponents all game long, the Blue Eagles flew to a 13-0 standing - just a win off from a clean sweep of the elimination round.

If they get just that at the expense of the University of the Philippines, Wednesday at MOA Arena, they automatically advance into the Finals and force stepladder playoffs.

In Dave's stead, kuya Shaun topped the scoring column for the Bulldogs with 21 points. Having no other player in double-digits, they fell for the fourth time in a row and 11th overall in 13 games.
