Without a doubt, Soulemane Chabi Yo has made an immediate impact in just his first year for University of Sto. Tomas.

So much so that on the back of averages of 16.9 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, the Growling Tigers' Beninese ball of energy has been hailed as MVP in the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.

He is the first player from Espana to take the trophy since Dylan Ababou in 2009.

Chabi Yo was the undisputed top individual player after also carrying UST back to the semifinals and coming up with a total of 76 Statistical Points (SPs) - 12 better than his runner-up.

That turned out to be Justine Baltazar of De La Salle University who had 64 SPs behind norms of 15.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks.

Actually, the Growling Tigers’ closest competitor as top individual player was Ange Kouame of Ateneo de Manila University who had 72.93 SPs.

A league rule, however, states that only one foreign student-athlete will make the Mythical Team.

As such, by virtue of losing out to Chabi Yo in the MVP race, Kouame also fell short of a Mythical selection.

Completing the Mythical Team are another Green Archer in Jamie Malonzo as well as the University of the Philippines' Kobe Paras and University of the East's Rey Suerte.
