After Sunday’s sensational win, the UST Growling Tigers are now a perfect 3-0 against the UP Fighting Maroons in UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball play.
However, all of the Tiger work will be undone if they can’t complete a 4-0 sweep next week.
By virtue of being the no. 2 team, largely because of all the close wins they picked up this season, the Maroons still have one chance to make a second straight UAAP Finals. All UP needs is one win to keep UST at bay.
“It won’t matter eh,” UST head coach Aldin Ayo on their perfect record against UP this season.
“That’s an all-important game. You have to take that away [3-0 record]. We really have to win against them on Wednesday, season is on the line,” he added.
As the lowest-ranked team in the stepladder format, UST’s road to the UAAP Finals was treacherous.
But two knockout wins later and it seems like the Growling Tigers are actually better off this way. After all, the alternative was facing defending champion Ateneo right away.
“We don’t have a choice eh, yun ang binigay samin,” Ayo said on their stepladder route.
“That’s competition eh. Kung ano nasa harap eh, you really just have to prepare and do your best,” he added.
