Newly-minted UAAP Most Valuable Player Soulemane Chabi Yo put the exclamation mark in UST’s dominant win over UP Sunday in Season 82 Final Four action at the Big Dome.
Chabi Yo scored on a powerful slam dunk to end the game, completing the Growling Tigers’ 89-69 victory to set up a final knockout game against the Maroons.
“If you know you did a big effort and you’re almost there, like one step to win, you don’t have to give up,” Chabi Yo said.
“You have to be more mentally tough and finish stronger, so that’s what I did. I wanted it more, because everybody is tired, you have to give all your best in that time,” he added.
For the second straight game in UST’s magical postseason run, Chabi Yo has posted numbers fit for his new title of MVP.
After scoring a career-high 25 points in the Tigers’ win over FEU, Chabi Yo punished the Maroons for 17 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
The MVP scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.
“Last game I was the leading scorer, so I know they’ll be focused on me, so I tried to play a little bit smart. If I find somebody free, I give up the ball,” he said.
“And then just finish strong, the last quarter is very important,” Chabi Yo added.
