From the fourth-seed, University of Sto. Tomas is one win away from the Finals of the UAAP 82 Men's Basketball Tournament.
And that win will have to come against the University of the Philippines - a team the Growling Tigers have downed in all three of their meetings in the tournament.
The black and gold's most recent victory was their most convincing yet as it routed the Fighting Maroons by 20 points.
With that, State U's twice-to-beat disadvantage was discarded and the two teams now head into a do-or-die match on Wednesday for the right to challenge Ateneo de Manila University in the Finals.
As such, even with its spotless slate against its playoff foe, UST's eyes remain on the prize. "Sobrang saya namin and sobrang taas ng morale, pero yung motivation, 'di mawawala yun," team captain CJ Cansino said.
He then continued, "'Di pa tapos 'to at ayaw ni Coach Aldin [Ayo] na nagse-celebrate hanggang 'di pa nakukuha yung championship."
Rhenz Abando could only agree. "Parang nakakasama pag nagse-celebrate e. Iniisip lang namin na may isa pa so magfo-focus pa rin kami para makapasok sa Finals."
And so, everybody could expect the Growling Tigers to come out with the same sort of fire as they try to win their third elimination game in a row. "'Di kami magkukumpiyansa. Basta gagawin namin yung dapat naming gawin at lalaruin yung pinaka-best namin," Abando said.
