Bo Perasol's fourth season at the helm of the University of the Philippines ended in heartbreaking fashion.

The twice-to-beat Fighting Maroons were, well, beaten twice by University of Sto. Tomas.

As such, State U will watch from home as the Growling Tigers challenge Ateneo de Manila University in the Finals.

Of course, this wasn't what they had planned for a season wherein they went all-in with the additions of Kobe Paras and Ricci Rivero.

At the same time, however, this time away from those great expectations is actually much-welcome for Coach Bo. Asked what's next for him after their earlier than expected exit, he answered, "For me, kung tatanungin mo ako, gusto ko na lang magpahinga at manood eh."

Pressed further, the always amiable mentor said that, technically, he is up for contract negotiations because the Diliman-based school appoints coaches on a yearly basis. "It really depends on the administration," he said.

Make no mistake, though, returning to represent his alma mater once again remains on the mind of coach Bo. "Sa akin, okay lang, but we have to talk. Siguro, beginning of next year yun then I have to make a decision sa magiging direction ko personally and, if ever, sa direction of the team," he said.

Whatever happens, Perasol said that UP will begin in a better place than when he took over in 2015. "We have set a bar na sana naman, wag na bumaba. I want this program (next year) to start from where we ended (this year) - and not from the bottom again," he said.

For reference, in nine years before Coach Bo, the Fighting Maroons sported a standing of 13-113.

And in four years under him? They have an elimination round record of 28-29 and have one Finals berth as well as two playoff berths.
