National University may have once again dominated the competition to bag its second straight Cheerdance title but head coach Ghicka Bernabe admitted that Season 82 was the most competitive one in years.
The NU Pep Squad thrilled the crowd with their Philippine pride-inspired theme and amazing routine on Sunday at the MOA Arena to keep their hold of the throne.
But performances from runner-up Far Eastern University and Adamson University were equally entertaining and very competitive.
“To be honest, this season is one of my favorite seasons ever because from the very start ng competition lahat ng teams almost they were able to pull off their routine,” said Bernabe, who steered NU to its sixth title in seven years.
The mentor, who herself was a former flier for FEU, felt that the other schools’ routines were clean and as deserving of a podium finish.
“Most of their routines were close to perfect.
But what the mentor liked the most about this season was the competitiveness of the field, making their win extra sweeter.
NU may have taken a good margin for a convincing win with 722 points compared to silver medalist FEU (706) and third placer Adamson (658.5) but Bernabe felt that this season brought the best from the rest of the field.
“Ito yung talagang nagiging standard ng pagalingan natin because lahat ay nag-enjoy,” she said. “Itong competition na ito is not just for the athletes na nag-perform. It’s for the audience also. It’s for the people na nasa bahay na nanonood na it’s a good entertainment and maraming sinusuportahang individuals na nasa loob.”
