For quite a while, National University was letting the seven other squads do their thing in the UAAP 82 Cheerdance Competition on Sunday.

At the end of it all, however, the NU Pep Squad staked claim to all of the MOA Arena with a dominant display that left no doubt they are still the gold standard in the annual event.

Saving the best for last, the Bulldogs were almost perfect as they paid homage to Filipino culture.

With their dancing divine, pyramids perfect, stunts scintillating, and tumblings terrific for the second year in a row, the blue and gold defended its title and has now reigned supreme in six of the last seven competitions.

The squad from Sampaloc's dominance blanketed all of the competition as it ranked first in all but one of the five criteria - stunts, tosses, pyramids, and dance.

The NU Pep Squad incurred four deduction points as well, but still totaled 722 points.

Far Eastern University did its best to come at the king with a thrilling tribute to Michael Jackson, but not even that could put NU's reign under siege as they wound up with 706 points.

The fifth performer on the floor, the FEU Cheering Squad channeled its inner King of Pop to the delight of the crowd.

While their routine was entertaining from start to finish and they bested the competition in tumblings, they were unable to keep up with the defending champions' total package and thus had to settle for a runner-up finish.

Completing the podium finishers is the Adamson University Pep Squad which went on fifth and then took everybody to the Carribean  for 658.5 points.

This top three is the same as last year's.

Following suit from fourth to eighth are the University of Sto. Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe, University of the East Pep Squad, University of the Philippines Pep Squad, Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Battalion, and De La Salle University Animo Squad.

NU, FEU, and Adamson also ruled the Group Stunts Competition as the first to third-placers.
