Goldwin Monteverde may very well have his golden opportunity to bring his winning ways over to the Srs.
Monteverde is being looked at to handle National University’s Srs. squad for next season.
The development was first broken by National U-Philippines Sports and later confirmed by several sources.
One source made it clear, however, that nothing is set in stone. “Initial talks are ongoing. Lots of details have to be ironed out first,” it said.
If Coach Gold finally does make the leap, this will be the first time he will get to test his mettle in the Srs.
This, after he has already conquered the Jrs. with titles for Nazareth School of NU and Chiang Kai Shek College in their respective leagues. He also brought back Adamson High School to contention in his time there.
Just this year, Monteverde guided NSNU to championships in the UAAP Jrs., National Basketball Training Center, Palarong Pambansa, and Asean School Games.
The Bulldogs are undergoing a coaching search after erstwhile mentor Jamike Jarin said he has decided to take care of himself for the time being.
Coach Jamike oversaw the last three seasons for the blue and gold and compiled an 11-31 record.
He left behind a young yet promising lineup fronted by Ildefonso brothers Dave and Shaun and John Lloyd Clemente.
If Monteverde indeed takes over, he also has a chance to reinvigorate that lineup with blue-chip recruits Gerry Abadiano, Kevin Quiambao, and Carl Tamayo who are playing out their final seasons as Bullpups.
One source, though, also clarified that Coach Gold remains focused on NSNU’s title defense in the ongoing Jrs. tournament.
