Nieto twins Mike and Matt have been proven to be men of their word.
A year ago, right after Ateneo de Manila University won back-to-back championships, the twins said they had a personal goal for the following season.
"Gusto talaga namin siyang talunin kasi tie lang kami sa high school. Hopefully, ang gusto talaga namin is talunin siya na mag-three-peat next year," Mike said then.
Fast forward to now and it is mission accomplished for the Nietos. "Super sweet and sobrang sarap nito. You know, achieving your goal, wala nang best feeling in the world lalo na para sa amin ni Mike na ang goal namin as a family is ma-beat yung kay daddy," Matt said.
And make no mistake, dad Jet has no problems whatsoever about his sons surpassing him. "We kept on dreaming eh. Before, when they were small, we were just watching the first championship of Ateneo and sabi na nila nun, 'Dad, we'll be down there and playing. We'll also win for Ateneo,'" he shared.
Alongside one-upping their school legend father, the twins are nothing but proud to have worked hard for four championships in their time in blue and white. "Ito yung pinaka-sweet ang pinakamasayang victory kasi kami na yung seniors eh and ito na yung last ride namin," Matt said.
He then continued, "Wala nang ibang mas magandang feeling kesa aalis ka ng Ateneo program na nag-champion. Dun ka maaalala - not as an individual, but as a team."
Indeed, the Nietos will forever be remembered as key cogs in a well-oiled machine that won a three-peat - the last one of which was via season sweep. "We're very blessed. At least, we have a legacy sa Ateneo na on our final year dito, we left as winners, we left as champions," Mike said.
